Arsenal are currently dispatching every domestic and continental opponent in their path and will look to preserve their flawless Champions League record in Tuesday’s league-phase clash away to Slavia Prague. The Gunners overwhelmed Atletico Madrid 4-0 on matchday three, while their Czech hosts earned a respectable goalless draw against Atalanta BC.
Thirteen proved to be a lucky number for Arsenal during Atletico’s visit to the Emirates, as Mikel Arteta’s ruthless side netted four goals in a 13-minute blitz against Diego Simeone’s struggling defense. Gabriel Magalhaes opened the scoring from a set piece, followed by a Gabriel Martinelli strike and a Viktor Gyokeres double to seal a comprehensive victory—keeping Arsenal perfect both in points and defensive record in the league phase.
Arsenal are one of only two sides yet to concede in the competition, alongside Inter Milan. They currently sit fourth in the league phase standings, just behind Inter, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain—a position that would guarantee automatic progression to the last 16.
Rarely troubled in the early stages of the Champions League under Arteta, Arsenal have now won their last seven league-phase matches and remain unbeaten in all 10 of their previous encounters with Czech teams in UEFA competitions, winning eight of those. Domestically, Arteta’s side continues to impress; Saturday’s 2-0 win at Burnley marked their ninth consecutive Premier League victory, their seventh straight clean sheet, and further solidified their lead at the top of the table. With such form, a Premier League and Champions League double seems a realistic ambition for this formidable Arsenal outfit.
In contrast, Slavia Prague’s European ambitions are more modest as they search for their first league-phase win of the campaign. Jindrich Trpisovsky’s side have picked up just two points from three matches so far, drawing 2-2 with Bodo/Glimt, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Inter Milan, and recently earning a hard-fought point away at Atalanta.
Both Slavia and Atalanta had chances to break the deadlock on matchday three, but the match ended in an entertaining goalless draw thanks to strong goalkeeping performances. Slavia’s two points leave them 28th in the 36-team standings, but their loss to Inter remains their only defeat in any competition this season. Defensively, they have tightened up, keeping five consecutive clean sheets across all competitions, including a recent 2-0 league win over Banik Ostrava to reclaim top spot from rivals Sparta Prague.
Offensively, Slavia have scored in all but one of their last 27 European home games. However, they have never beaten Arsenal in four previous meetings, most recently suffering a 4-0 defeat in the second leg of the 2020-21 Europa League quarter-finals.
