Artificial Intelligence and Computational Thinking (AI & CT) will strengthen the concept of learning, thinking, and teaching, and will gradually expand towards the concept of "AI for the Public Good." This initiative is a new but important step towards the ethical use of AI to solve complex challenges, as this technology will be embedded at the foundational level, starting from Grade 3.
Committee formed under the chairmanship of Professor Karthik Raman
A stakeholder consultation was held on October 29, 2025, bringing together expert bodies including CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS, and external experts. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has formed an expert committee chaired by Professor Karthik Raman of IIT Madras to develop the AI and CT curriculum.
This initiative is in line with the NCF-SE 2023.
At the consultation, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, DoSEL, emphasized that AI education should be considered a basic universal skill connected to the world around us (TWAU). He stated that the curriculum should be comprehensive, inclusive, and in line with the NCF-SE 2023. He further stated that the unique potential of each child is our priority. He further stated that as policymakers, our job is to set a minimum threshold and re-evaluate it based on changing needs.
He further highlighted that teacher training and teaching materials, including NISHTHA's teacher training modules and video-based learning resources, will form the backbone of curriculum implementation. Collaboration between NCERT and CBSE through a coordination committee under NCF SE will ensure seamless integration, structure, and quality assurance.
Kumar emphasized that while it is good to analyze international and international boards and have an international perspective, it must be tailored to our needs. Joint Secretary (Information and Technology) Prachi Pandey concluded by reiterating the importance of adhering to the set timelines for curriculum development and implementation.
