Rajasthan's Education Minister has announced that RBSE students will now be able to appear for board exams twice in a single semester. Under the new system, students will be able to take a "second chance exam" to improve their scores.
Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar, who was on a visit to Kota district, made a major announcement for students. He said that the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE), Ajmer, will now allow students to appear for board exams twice in a single academic semester. This new system will be implemented from the next academic session.
Minister Dilawar explained that this step was taken under the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The new education policy aims to provide students with more opportunities and flexibility so they can better demonstrate their abilities. He stated that appearing for the first board exam will be mandatory for all students, while those who pass this exam will have the opportunity to take a second exam to improve their scores in up to three subjects.
Dilawar also clarified that students who are declared supplementary will be allowed to appear for a second chance examination in a maximum of three subjects. This will include supplementary subjects, so students will no longer have to wait a year and can improve their results in the same session.
What did the Education Minister say?
From now on, the Rajasthan Board will conduct examinations twice a year. The first main examination will be held in February-March, and after the results are declared, a second examination, called the "Second Chance Examination," will be held in May-June. Both examinations will be based on the full syllabus of the same session. This means students will not have to undertake any new or different preparation. The study plan and examination system will remain the same both times.
Dilawar said that if a student is absent from the main examination, they will be allowed to appear for the second examination only upon presenting a medical certificate or a certificate issued by the District Education Officer. This arrangement will only apply to students with a valid reason for their absence.
The fee will be this much.
The Education Minister stated that the fee for the second chance examination will be the same as for the main examination. Students will not face any financial burden due to this system. Furthermore, the Board has decided to implement the "best of two" principle. This means that the student's highest score in both exams will be included in the final result. This will significantly reduce the pressure on students to score well in the first exam.
