Know the mythological story

According to Brahmavaivarta Purana, Ravana's maternal grandfather Sumali Mahadev Had asked for the boon of his safety. During that time, when he got the boon of Lord Shiva, he became stronger due to his power. At one time he came down to the destruction of the universe and started reaching the Sun God. To keep Sumali from moving towards the sky Lord Surya Attacked him. Sumali was not able to do anything in front of the brightness and power of the Sun. That's why he called Lord Shiva, because of giving boon Lord Shankar had to come, thus Surya and Lord Shiva came face to face.

Shiva had to battle Suryadev to keep Mali and Sumali from moving skyward. During the battle, Shiva threw a trident at Suryadev, breaking him into three pieces. Lord Shankar's trident hurt the Sun God and he became unconscious, during which his father Kashyap became angry and cursed Shiva. The curse was that one day Shiva would also use a trident on his son.Due to this curse, Shiva attacked Balganesh with a trident.

Where are temples built for Sun God

Today, temples dedicated to the Sun God have been built at the same three places where the pieces of the Sun God fell. Konark Sun Temple celebrated where first piece falls. It is in the state of Odisha. The second piece is in Bihar, there is Devark Sun Temple and Lolark Sun Temple is near Kashi in Uttar Pradesh.
